ART IN MIND
@ The Brick Lane Gallery
2 - 13 April
Opening. 1 April 6.30 - 8.30 PM
The Brick Lane Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition " Art in Mind " featuring a mix of Urban, Street, Graphic and Contemporary artists.
www.thebricklanegallery.com
Artists:
The Art Tart - Keith Ashcroft - Zhang Fan - Ulf Frödin - Anne Hanno-Nagel - Aviva Meromy - Pedro Matos - Colin McKenzine - Belinda Nailon -David C Williams - Nurdan Karasu Gokce & Nazim Mehmet from Erciyes University.
The exhibition will feature new paintings and stencil works by the sensational artist The Art Tart, presenting her larger than life stencil works through her alter-ego. The Art Tart took the Banksy Cans Festival by storm with her shocking stencil paintings and a performance which was definitely one to remember ... Through her use of various costumes to create the ultimate tarty look with high heels, big red lips, leopard stockings, French knickers and open shirt, she in fact reveals a larger than life character - which, coupled with a few spray cans, takes street art to a whole new level. Combining the genres of performance and art, she crosses into controversial grounds by voluntarily exhibiting her naughty side... Bending over riding a spray can and farting roses reveals a playful side to her light-hearted and tongue in cheek approach to her practice.
She previously worked with Damien Hirst on his spin paintings and Butterfly pieces during which she would collect the left-over paint to make her own self-portraits. She also assisted the international street artist Nick Walker and posed naked at one point for David Bailey.
The Art in Mind Exhibition will continue until the 13th April and is open daily from 1 pm to 6 pm.

Thursday 5th March

H!H!H! - 5th MARCH
Before their massive line-up on the 27th March, Hyponik will be having another little soiree at Last Days of Decadence as Hyp!Hyp!Hyp! presents a head-nodder showcasing two of London’s finest new hip-hop/bass producers, BULLION and PAUL WHITE. Clichéd as it sounds, but “if you’ve not already heard of these guys, then trust me, you will”. After recent releases on the fledgling One Handed label, and with a fine line in dancefloor pounding, 23rd century beat conducting, Bullion looks set to blow up this year. Loved by Ed Banger, bigged-up by Mary Anne Hobbs and having been compared to Justice making grinding hip-hop, Bullion’s gonna come scare your kids/mum/pets/ears. Check out his recent remix EP for some true goodness.
Next up comes the post-Dilla South London rudeboy that is PAUL WHITE. Having been getting true heads in a twist for a few years now, Paul has been developing his sound, mixing it up with just about every influence out there and coming with some next level beats. Check out his recent Mary Anne Hobbs mix and look out for some true British hip-hop as it’s supposed to sound. Oh, and he likes reggae too.
Stones Throw player and One Handed’s own founder ALEX CHASE will be playing out whatever the damn hell he pleases, whilst Dublime’s own ROOTSTEADY will be showing us how he does it with mixture of wonky hip-hop, bass, dubstep and more!
PLUS we have Urban Nerds own DADDY NATURE warming things up with a mixture of true dub reggae and the trusty HYPONIK DJ’S bringing a mixture of everything H!H!H! from 9PM and rolling though to 2.30AM. Check out pictures on our Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=49637924891&ref=ts

"I dunno what the future holds, but I'm never gonna stop painting. I'm a bit bored of body portraits so I'm gonna give that a rest for a little while. I've got much stronger new ideas ready though I can tell you that! Ask my mates Josh or Jimmy. As for graffiti I'm never gonna be done with that either haha! It's too much fun, my fingers have been itching for the last year! I see it as more of a disability or mental illness haha!...............definitely!"

CHEER UP YOU ROTTERS
The Brick Lane Gallery | 196 Brick Lane | London | E1 6SA | 0207 729 9721 Artists BORTUSK LEER and FIVE FOUR are united for the first time by Brick Lane Gallery to fill the space with the cheeky day-glo madness of their street-art inspired works and chaotic colourful lifestyles for what promises to be a lively antidote to a particularly monotonous and gloomy February.

The fruit of forbidden love between a Lion Tamer and a Candy floss seller BORTUSK LEER was forced to find his own way in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. Though his early years are shrouded in mystery (some say circus some say tractor barn) by his teens, Leer could be found joyfully daubing the walls of his homeland with fantastical-childlike characters, psychedelic vermin and inhuman collage. Art comedy was born and Leer never looked back, particularly when being chased by the secret police with big-headed pictures of Lenin streaming out behind him always sporting the trademark Top Hat and Cane he had won wrestling a Turk on the quay of Messina.(1)

FIVE FOUR uses fluorescent acrylic paints, inks and sprays to create paintings which take on a sculptural form through the textured and 3D aspect of his work. Inspired by signage, toilet graffiti and advertising, FIVE FOUR avoids the clichés of street art by using titles and words as the unique source of his work. With a tongue in cheek approach to language, his works express a certain feeling of rebellion - The title is the picture, he says and these titles are always social comments reflecting our time. From small paintings on canvas - little curiosities which he used to paste directly into the street - to larger scale works and printed imagery highlighted in light boxes, FIVE FOUR opens the discussion about the way in which our society plays with visuals codes. His work demonstrates a technical process which starts with the preparation of the canvas - often covered with found paper such as maps - to then apply textured 3D letters made of paint, offering unconditional messages about the difficulties of living in our society.
